Sit-in protests staged

A sit-in protests were held today at different places in Imphal West district against the incident of stabbing a CRPF jawan on leave by armed men in plainclothes at Kadangband under Lamshang PS in Imphal West district.
The sit-in, under the aegis of All Manipur Democratic Women's Front, was held at Singda, Kadangband, Lairensajik and Phayeng.
A Singda-Kadangband Part-I resident, Soibam Telheiba (45), a CRPF man posted at Group Centre, CRPF, Langjing was stabbed by armed men in civvies when he returned home in a motorcycle at around 8.30pm on the night of October 27 .
According to mother of the victim, two unidentified persons armed with pistols and sword stopped Telheiba at a place near the junction of Kadangband Part-I and Part-II.
When he obliged, Telheiba was asked various questions including the presence of UG cadres in the area and Pradhan and members of the GP.
Sensing stinks, Telheiba tried to leave the two alone.
However, one of the armed miscreants had stabbed the knife at him.
He managed to reach home despite his injury, his mother recounted.
Meanwhile, Pradhan of Lairenkabi-Kadangband GP, Nunglepam Bobby has also strongly condemned the incident.
Pertinently, 10 Assam Rifles has a post on the hill-top near the spot where the incident took place.
Protesters today asked the concerned organisations to clarify the fault of Telheiba, if any, immediately while urging all concerned not to repeat such incidents in the future.
Protesters were seen holding placards, 'Repeal AFSPA,' 'We don't want rule of soldiers,' etc during the demonstration.
