Cops summon husband of murdered woman : Sit-in decries murder of Robert's mom

Imphal, May 31 2019: Giving a fresh twist to the murder of Thokchom Ningol Naorem ongbi Rekha Devi of Singjamei Mathak Thokchom Leikai, Singjamei police today summoned the husband of the deceased, Naorem Dwijamani for questioning at about 3.30 pm.

Till the time of going to the press late in the evening, Dwijamani was at the police station as the questioning was still on.

Significantly, the deceased woman is the mother of renowned fashion designer Robert Naorem.

Earlier in the day, the Joint Action Committee formed against the brutal killing staged a protest demonstration at Imo filling petrol station today, demanding immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the murder.

Speaking to media persons, convenor of the JAC, Nameirakpam Michael said that the protest has been staged in connection with the brutal murder of Thokchom Ningol Naorem Ongbi Rekha Devi, who is suspected to have been killed between 11.30 am and 1.30 pm of May 29 .

Stating that the JAC was formed yesterday evening to pressure the authority concerned to swiftly arrest those involved in the murder, he said that the JAC also set a deadline of five days before the authority starting from yesterday.

If the authority fails to arrest the culprit/s, then the JAC, along with UCM and other CSOs of the State, including women organisations, will launch intense agitation, he added.

The protest continued till 4 pm after which the protesters submitted a memorandum to the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Y Khemchand who is also the local ML A.On the other hand, according to a reliable source, Naorem Dwijamani, husband of the deceased, who is also the president of Consumer Dispute Forum, was pulled up by a team of Singjamei PS in connection with the case at around 3.30 pm today, for investigation and recording his statement.
