Imphal, March 31 2017: District Health Mission Society, Imphal West organised ASHA day at Indian Medical Association hall Lamphelpat today.

Speaking at the event, State ASHA Nodal officer, State Health Mission Society, Manipur, Dr N Somoijit said thatASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) contribute greatly in providing community health services to the people.

He said that Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will honour their contribution to the society in the form of a certificate from the next year.

"There are more than nine lakhs ASHA in India and they will be given promotions through on-line examinations which necessitate ASHA to be educated and literate'', he said.

District Mission Director/ CMO DHMS, I/W, Dr H Kula Singh and DFWO/ District Nodal officer ASHA, DHMS V W, Dr Th Somorendro Singh were also present at the event.

Certificates were distributed to 17 ASHA facilitators and awards were distributed to 12 Best ASHAs of Imphal West as part of the event.
