Imphal, December 31 2013 : A newly born baby girl was found dead near a culvert close to a dwelling house at Wabagai Lamkhai Bazar under Kakching police station this afternoon.

One member of the family whose house is located close by was cleaning the surrounding areas as snakes used to intrude into his house often.

He suddenly came across a black polythene bag containing something.

On prodding the bag, it turned out that it contained was a lifeless newly born baby.

As the body was quite fresh, it looked like the baby was abandoned there this morning.

But it is not clear whether the baby was alive or dead when it was abandoned there.

A pair of hand gloves was also found inside the polythene bag.

Later, Kakching police picked up the baby and put it at JNIMS morgue.
