Imphal, October 30 2012: Ahead of the official Ningol chakkouba festival, Nongchup Imphal Loumee Sinmee Chaokhat Thourang Lup, Imphal West and international Handicapped Welfare Mission co-hosted a grand feast for the female members (ningols) belonging the economically weaker section of the society and people with disabilities.

In all 110 ningols of peasant families and physically challenged ones attended the pre-Ningol Chakkouba event also graced by Kouthoujam AC MLA K Sharat as the chief guest.

Conveying that the event was first organised last year, Lup secretary Sharat kumar Asem in his key-note address stated that this year the invitees are all daughters of farmers.

He further stated that the gifts present to the Ningols were purchased out of the prize money received by the Lup for bagging awards in fairs organised by the Agriculture Department.

Speaking at the occasion, MLA Sharat deplored that crime against girls/women have been on the rise.

Pointing out that Manipuri society accords high respect to the womenfolk since ages, he called upon the people to contribute their mite in tackling crime against women and children.
