Free eye and cataract operation camp concluded

Following the free mega eye camp, Thoubal district, organized by SKY Eye Care Foundation in association with NPCB on July 27 at Thoubal Mela Ground, a free eye and cataract operation camp was held at SKY Hospital, Porompat on August 3, 10 and 24 with postoperative checkup on August 8, 15 and 29 .
The inaugural function of the eye camp was graced by Ms Mirabai Devi and Mrs Okram Landoni Devi, Social Welfare Minister and Khangabok constituency MLA as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
While appreciating SKY Eye Care Foundation and NPCB for the effort, the chief guest and guest of honour of the event also forwarded some financial assistance to the organizing committee.
The camp provided free transport from Lilong, Yairipok, Heirok, Wangjing, Tentha and Kakching to help patients reach the camp site on time.
Free medicines were also distributed to the needy patients at the camp.
On August 3, 7 patients with cataract, 2 patients with pterygium and 1 patient with entropion regained their eye sight after the operation.
Five cataract and 6 pterygium patients underwent eye operation on August 10 and on August 24, 5 patients (4 cataract + 1 pterygium) underwent eye operations.
These operations were performed at SKY Hospital and Research Centre, Porompat using sophisticated imported German-made Carl Zeiss operating microscope a press release stated.
The camp also provided free intraocular lenses (IOL) and spectacles to the patients.
Thoubal was the second district where SKY Eye Care Foundation conducted Free Eye Camp this year.
The first being Bishnupur district where a free eye camp was held on March 2 followed by a cataract operations of 11 patients at SKY Hospital, Porompat.
Dr L Shyamkishore, Chairman of SKY Group of Hospitals, stated that the hospital will continue to provide free eye camps and operations at all the districts.
He further calls for help from other philantropic organizations (viz., Rotary Club, Lions Club, etc.), district authority and district NGOs in organizing such camps in the future.
