Imphal, March 30 2019:
Reacting to BJP's charge that Congress candidates and party leaders are involved in criminal cases handled by CBI, ex-Chief Minister and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Okram Ibobi has questioned the Government's failure to investigate the criminal cases properly and book the culprits through Courts.
He was speaking at a reception function held at Congress Bhavan here today in honour of 24 individuals who have joined Congress party anew.
Those who have joined Congress party included ex-Minister, ADC Member and Mahila Morcha members.
Hailing all the people who have joined Congress, Ibobi asserted that there are 24 Ministers in the NDA Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who are involved in criminal cases.
Many of them were involved in sexual offences against women and BJP must keep this fact in mind, Ibobi said.
Commenting on the charge that the Congress Government borrowed Rs 8000 crore and provided employment to just 10,000 people, the ex-Chief Minister remarked that it did not look like BJP was making the particular charge after obtaining accurate knowledge about in how many years the amount was borrowed or whether it was during the 15 years of Congress rule.
The BJP-led Government which is yet to complete even two years has already borrowed nearly Rs 2000 crore.
When it completes five years, it would be borrowing over Rs 8000 crore, Ibobi said.
The NDA Government at the Centre and the BJP-led Government in the State are obsessed with false publicity and propaganda without doing anything on ground, he asserted.
Taking a dig at the State Government's Go to Hills campaign, Ibobi asked if the Government has done anything worthwhile under the campaign.
Hailing all those people who have joined Congress party by keeping faith in the party's ideology and principles and Rahul Gandhi's leadership, the CLP leader called upon all the people to work collectively in order to save Manipur, India, democracy and constitution.
He also appealed to all the people to make sure that no party or group uses the CBI as a political tool or threatens the country's democracy and constitution.
At Kakching, Ibobi rebuffed all the allegations made by BJP against the INC's candidate for Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency election.
He claimed that the biggest cheats and criminals are the BJP Union leaders in the Centre who are heading the Government.
He made the statement during a felicitation event of INC's 2 Outer Manipur (Scheduled Tribe) Parliamentary Constituency K James, cum public meeting which was held at Kakching Dramatic Union (KDU) hall at Kakching Phousupat Leikai, under the aegis of Kakching Block Congress Committee and Wabagai Block Congress Committee today.
Ex-Deputy CM and current MPCC president MLA Gaikhangam, Wabagai AC MLA Md Fajur Rahim, District Congress Committee president E Manglem, Kakching Block Congress Committee president Ksh Ibohal, 2-Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency Congress Councillors as well many workers attended the event.
Speaking at the event, O Ibobi said that 24, out of the 78 Union Cabinet Ministers of the present Central Government, are involved in many criminal cases and this is proved by their affidavits submitted while filing their nominations.
He then said that the Narendra Modi Government will be no more and in its place, the Congress, led by Rahul Gandhi, will come to power in the country and appealed to the people to cast their votes for the Congress candidate.
On the other hand, Congress candidate K James said that it is imperative to bring peace and unity among the hills and the valley for the development of Manipur.
He further appealed to the people to cast their votes for the party and assured that he will work tirelessly and diligently for the people of the State if he is elected as an MP .
