Lifer for rape convict

The Special Judge Fast Track Court II Manipur has on Wednesday sentenced 30 years old rape accused to life imprisonment.
Convict Tekcham Biraraj Sanayaima @ Yaima, s/o Shyam of Wangjing Tentha was convicted by the same Court on December 27 after the trial of the case.
He was produced before the Court at Lamphel from Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa for the sentence hearing.
The Court heard Special PP and defense counsel of the convict to announce the quantum of the punishment.
Special PP argued that death penalty should be given to the convict as the crime committed by him is heinous.
On the other hand defense counsel of the convict argued that the convict is a young person in the relevant time of the incident and is in the judicial custody from May 2015 till date.
The Court sentenced Tekcham Bijaraj to undergo life imprisonment and directed him to pay a fine of Rs 10 thousand.
Mention may be made that the victim was found dead in a suspicious manner in one drain at Amurei Loukhol on June 6, 2015 with injury marks on her neck.
The investigation of the case was carried out by MPS Sarangthem Hemanta, then SDPO Yairipok.
The trial of the case was transferred from Session Court Thoubal to Special Judge Fast Track Court II Manipur by an order of the High Court.
