Wearing of helmets to make mandatory

Imphal, September 28 2012:
With the rising cases of accidents in Manipur, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Imphal West district has issued a notice informing that two wheeler riders as well as pillion riders should wear helmets/head gears with immediate effect and warned that any one found not wearing helmets/head gears, will be fined and challenged as per provision of Motor Vehicle Act.
In a statement issued under K.Jayenta, Superintendent of Police, Imphal West district the statement expressed a great concern keeping in view of the fact that motor accidents occurring without wearing helmets can be fatal and further informed that the district police will be conducting a special drive to enforce wearing of helmets/head gears in the city with immediate effect.
It may be mentioned that wearing of helmets/protection head gears by the two wheelers as well as pillion riders are a must as per provision of section 129 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 .
