Imphal, April 28 2016:
The stone plaques at Khongjom War Memorial Complex which were unveiled by President Pranab Mukherjee on April 23 this year and former President VV Giri way back on October 22, 1972 and which have been reported missing are in the office of the PWD (Building Division) Chief Engineer Pradip Mukherjee.
The stone plaques of the Khongjom War Monument which was inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee would be placed in its proper place after development and beautification work of the war memorial complex is fully completed, informed a PWD official.
The newly erected pillars which form a trident symbolises British invasion on Manipur from three directions.
The carved stone erected in the middle of the three pillars represents the defensive formation of Manipuri soldiers.
The whole structure was conceptualised after consulting many experts over a period of time.
The inaugural stone unveiled by former President VV Giri was removed as there arose a confusion whether people were offering floral tributes to the inaugural stone or to the war heroes.
The inaugural stone was removed at the suggestion of noted antique expert Mutuwa Bahadur.
The same would be installed at a proper place after the development work is complete, added the source.
