Manipur's prospect in India's ambitious Look East Policy took centre-stage at a special high level meeting held today under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister Okram ibobi Singh.
Along with focus on diverse issues and to what extent Manipur could benefit from the trade/commerce-centric Policy the meeting resolved to further minutely deliberate the issue by head of departments for preparing a vision document on Look East policy.
attended by Ministers, Chief Secretary and top department officials, Commerce and Industries Principal Secretary O Nabakishore reportedly presented a power point projection on the inevitability of air, road and rail connectivity for the successful implementation of the Policy as well as economic benefits India would have.
According to a source, initial emphasis for Manipur was on development of the health care, education and tourism sectors along with setting up of special economic zone.
Completing land acquisition process for the new township development in Moreh by next month and accelerate construction of the integrated check post in the border town also figured prominently in today's meeting.
The meeting is said to have culminated with the Chief Minister directing all concerned mainly head of departments to prepare and present their respective proposals so as to finalise a vision document on Look East Policy.
