Disaster training / awareness programme held

A one day "Disaster Training cum Awareness Programme" organized by Civil Defence and Relief and Disaster Management under the sponsorship of Department of Relief and Disaster Management, GoM was held at Lois Office, Kakching today.
The programme was attended by Deputy Controller of Civil Defence and Relief & Disaster Management, Md Ayub Khan as chief guest.
Speaking at the occasion, Md Ayub Khan said that massive deforestation and the uncheck human activities led to the present impending disaster adding that it is high time to take strong remedial measures to avoid the looming disaster.
He continued that earthquake does not kill people but the RCC building and structure constructed without earthquake proof does.
As such, it is important to take all the required security measures while constructing building and house to minimise the casualty when earthquate strikes, he added.
Manipur lies in Seismic Zone 5 which is among the highest earthquake prone region adding that the training programme was conducted to spread awareness about the basic security measures that can be taken by the public during disaster.
The programme was also attended by Retd Staff officer, Civil Defence Manipur A Subhaschandra as functional president and social worker Md Ibomcha as guest of honour.
Community leaders, members of civil body organization, women society etc were also present in the training programme.
