Imphal, October 27 2015:
Accusing the authority of DM College of Science of violating official students' union election norms, Monitoring Cell Students' Union Election has announced a ban on the conduct of scrutiny of nomination papers for students' union election in respect of DM College of Sciences slated to be held tomorrow.
The Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) had already announced a ban on students' union election of DM College of Science yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Principal of DM College of Science today said there is no lapse in the process for students' union election.
DMC of Science authority has allegedly fixed the last date of filing nomination to the students' union election on Oct 24 which is against a Govt notification.
According to a Govt notification, the last date for filing nomination for the election is Oct 26 .
Addressing a press conference today, convener of Monitoring Cell Students' Union Election, Th Udoy said the ban on scrutiny has been imposed as the college has violated the official poll norms.
Udoy also accused Kakching Khunou college of violating norms by restricting third year students from contesting for the posts of general secretary and finance secretary.
Although the Directorate of University and Higher Education issued notification for student unions poll in time, some colleges did not follow the official norms, he said while urging the Dept concerned to look into the matter.
Meanwhile, Principal of DM College of Science, in a statement, said there is no instance of the college violating the Education Directorate notification regarding the last date for filing of nomination.
As per the Education Directorate notification, the college, in its notification for Students' Union election 2015-16, had fixed Oct 26 (Monday) upto 3 pm as the last date for filing notification, the Principal clarified.
Since the Directorate's notification did not give specific date for issue of nomination forms, the College fixed Oct 17 as the date for issue of nomination forms.
Other than this, the college has strictly adhered to the notification of the Education Directorate, the Principal said.
