Constitution Day: Need to understand and appreciate constitution: Deputy CM

"Constitution Day", the day to mark the adoption of Indian Constitution by the then Constituent Assembly in 1949, is being observed today.
The State Level Observation was held at the Banquet Hall of 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles in Imphal.
Deputy Chief Minister, Yumnam Joykumar Singh took the pledge to solemnly affirm the preamble of the Constitution of India.
He also released the diglot (English-Manipuri) edition of Constitution of India in the Observation.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh said, we all have to understand and try to appreciate the Constitution of India which is a vibrant and dynamic one.
He said, by knowing the importance of the Constitution, we will be able to follow the basic principles and ideals of the Constitution.

Joykumar Singh also said, for a welfare state, every citizen have the responsibility to uphold the basic principles which are enshrined in the Constitution.
We all have to enjoy the fundamental rights given by the Constitution and also ensure that fundamental duties should also be followed so that we will be able to contribute in the society.
Observing that the Preamble itself defines the basic structure of the Constitution, Deputy Chief Minister said, the Constitution of India which came into force on 26th January, 1950 gives equality of status and opportunity to all citizens of our country.
The written constitution which is unitary in spirit gives a federal structure to the Union of India.
Changes in the Constitution have been taking place from time to time according to the needs which itself defines what dynamism is all about in the Constitution.
He appealed the gathering to understand the basic principles of our Constitution to enable us to be a responsible citizen for the welfare of the country.
Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Yumnam Khemchand Singh in his Presidential speech said, all systems in the world have a guiding principle through which their nature of duties have been established.
Like this, our Constitution is the guiding force of which all aspects of democratic setup and nature of duties have been established in the country.
As a responsible citizen, we all have to abide by the Constitution in every sphere of our lives, he added.
TA & Hills Minister N Kayisii, Agriculture Minister V Hangkhanlian, DGP, Addl CSs, Commissioners and officials participated among others in the observation.
