Leishemba Sanajaoba underscores necessity of climate resilient healthcare facilities

Rajya Sabha MP and titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba has urged experts and doctors to promote climate-resilient healthcare facilities and adopt environment friendly technologies and energy efficient services in the healthcare facilities.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a one-day seminar held on the theme "Swasth Bharat, Carbon Shunya Bharat" along with a State level painting competition held at Jubilee Hall, RIMS, Imphal today.
The Rajya Sabha MP stated that India's greenhouse gas emissions are mainly from the electricity and heat, agriculture, forestry and land use, manufacturing and construction, transport, healthcare, industry, buildings etc.
He added that India is also a signatory of the Male Declaration on Building Health Systems Resilience to Climate Change, 2017 and is committed to promoting climate resilient healthcare facilities.

Further, he informed that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has identified two components underlying the principle of "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle", namely i) lowering carbon emissions in health facilities: strengthening management of energy, water, and waste at the facility level and ii) promoting lifestyle changes for patients, attendants and human resources at the facility.
"It is high time that we all work together and aim to achieve carbon-neutral and climate-resilient health facilities", he maintained.
Dr Koijam Mani Bhushan Singh, Head of Department of Environment Science, DM College of Science, Dhanamanjuri University, Imphal; Dr S Priyokumar Singh, former Director, Science & Technology and Environment: Professor Dr Bankimchandra Oinam, Department of Civil Engineering, NIT, Manipur and Dr Aditya K Joshi, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests were the resource persons of the seminar.
Professor N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital and Professor Paonam Gunindro Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University of Culture, Imphal graced the occasion as presidium members.
During the day, a State-level painting competition, divided into two categories, was also held.
In category I, N Korounganba of Heritage Convent, Uripok; S Purel Mangang of St George High School, Wangkhei and Laishram Bidyananda of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Lamphel secured the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively.
In category-II, Sunaina Saikhom of Kendra Vidyalaya, Lamphel; Thiyam Jesina Devi of RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya and Ningombam Bolero of Shishu Nishtha Niketan got the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively.
Professor N Sanjib Singh distributed the prizes to the winners of the State level painting competition.
