Imphal, July 25 2022:
Two members of KNA
(I) were arrested for extortion of money from non-local shops at Lailam Veng and
Nute Bazar in Churachandpur
town masquerading as members of NRFM on Monday.
The arrested persons have
been identified as Paolalmon Singson (24) son of late
Thangkhilal Singson of Tollen
village, Churachandpur and
Letthang Haokip (45) son
of late Thangneh Haokip of
Majuron Kuki village, Leimatak but presently residing
at Mongjang village, Churachandpur.
While stating that KNA (I)
is a defunct non-SoO armed
group, a police report said
they received information
that some unknown persons
claiming to NRFM members
demanded money from about
five non-Manipuri shops located in the township nearly
a week after the said persons
collected certain amounts
from two shops.
It is also reported that they
threatened claiming they
were sent to collect money from the non-Manipuri
shops by their NRFM leaders who killed Anand Gupta
recently.
On receipt of the information a suo-moto case was
registered against the unknown persons and during
the course of investigation
CCTV footages collected from
near the targeted shops were
analysed along with constant
surveillance in the suspected
areas.
Subsequently, two persons picked up from different places revealed during
preliminary interrogation
that were members of KNA
(I) and not NRFM but used
NRFM's name to intimidate
the non-Manipuri shopkeepers, the police added.
