AMSU suspends DMU stir

Following assurance from the Education Minister, All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) has decided to call off its indefinite ban on all activities concerning DM University, which it had imposed on June 23 alleging lack of many facilities which are required by a university.
Speaking to media persons at AMSU HQs today, its secretary general Bipinchandra Ahanthem said that AMSU sent a charter of demands to the State Government on the condition of DM University.
But after the Government failed to take notice, AMSU decided to impose a total ban on all activities related to the university on June 23, he said adding that today, at around 4 pm, a 7 member team of AMSU led by its president met the Education Minister at his office chambers to discuss the deplorable condition of the university.
During the meeting, the Minister assured to take up necessary steps to ensure that the registration certificates of the students are given from tomorrow.
The Minister also informed the AMSU team that necessary process for enrolling DM university in the Association of Indian University will begin within a week.
Bipinchandra continued that the Minister further assured to finish all the pending works at the earliest and to complete the appointment process of the VC, Registrar, Examination Controller, Deans, Librarians, teaching and non-teaching staff etc by December this year.
After getting the assurance from the Minister himself, AMSU decided to all off its ban for the time being, he said cautioning that if the authority concerned fails to do the needful, intense agitation will be launched.
