Imphal, June 25 2012:
With regard to the second sitting of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly which is scheduled to commence from June 27 in the Assembly Hall at Chingmeirong, the Assembly Secretariat has issued an office memorandum which debar all companions of MLAs from entering the Assembly complex with the exception of PSOs and drivers.
Briefing media persons today, Speaker Th Lokeshore stated that stringent security measures have been taken up in and around the Assembly complex.
He also claimed that all necessary measures have been put in place so that all the sessions can be held smoothly without any disturbance.
He also personally inspected the Members' seat arrangement, sound system as well as the press gallery.
The present seat arrangement is such that Members of the Opposition bench and ruling bench would be facing each other when they debate any matter in the House rather than face the Speaker which is the standard norm.

Observing the existing pattern of seat arrangement, the Speaker expressed desire to modify the arrangement.
The Speaker then went up the press gallery and personally experienced the difficulties faced by media persons due to low audibility there at the gallery.
Though the sound system has improved a bit this time, it has not been fully upgraded as necessary equipment have just arrived.
Nonetheless, the sound system would be fine before the next round of sitting, claimed the Speaker.
He also assured that certain modifications would be made in the press gallery so as to redress the problem faced by media persons due to low visibility of opposition bench from the gallery.
Once the ongoing construction work is fully completed, staff currently working in the Old Assembly would be shifted to the new building.
Agriculture Minister Abdul Nasir was also present when the Speaker inspected the Assembly building.
