Imphal, March 24 2017:
RIMS staff who have been agitating against absence of a Director at the medical institute for a long time have suspended the agitation after Chief Minister N Biren gave an assurance to address their grievances.
Speaking to media persons at his office this evening, RIMS Medical Superintendent Prof Ch Arunkumar said that he held a meeting with Chief Minister N Biren who is also vice-chairman of RIMS Society in the latter's office chamber this evening and the Chief Minister assured to take up the matter with Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda directly.
The Chief Minister would go to Delhi and meet JP Nadda on Sunday and the Chief Minister may also talk with the Prime Minister, if necessary.
"Meanwhile, I've received an instruction to submit a representation to the Union Minister of Health and Family, a copy of which should also be submitted to the Chief Minister," conveyed the Medical Superintendent.
He then appealed to all the employees of RIMS including doctors, nurses, para-medical staff and other staff to go back to their normal duties from tomorrow.
Notably, RIMS Teachers and Medical Officers Association, RIMS Nurses Association and RIMS Non-Teaching Employees Welfare Association jointly staged a protest demonstration yesterday and announced that they would launch a cease work strike from today.
The three organisations announced that the routine operation theatres would remain shut and they would stay away from emergency operations including obstetrics operations.
They further announced that they would stay away from all normal activities of the institute from Sunday.
To a query, Prof Ch Arunkumar said that the institute has been functioning at its best level despite the absence of a Director and there is no need for the people to be panicky.
