Many resolve to boycott R-Day celebration

Imphal, January 24 2024:
While accusing the central government of turning a blind eye to the violent conflict raging in the state since May 3 claiming hundreds of lives and rendering homeless thousands, many have resolved not to join the Republic Day celebration.
Disabled Development Association Manipur and Wheelchair Basketball Association, Manipur declared not to take part in the ensuing Republic Day celebration.
Speaking to media persons at Pishum Chingamacha ground on Wednesday, general secretary of the two associations Md Yunus Khan said that though the differently abled people could not join physically in defending the villages in the present conflict, they have resolved not to take part in the Republic Day celebration this year as a mark of respect to the village volunteers who are risking their lives for defending Manipur and the people.
He appealed to every differently abled person not to participate in the Republic Day celebration.
Meanwhile, in separate releases.
Committee of Forward Clubs, Thongju; Apunba Meira Paibee Lup; CFC Youth Front; Thongju; and Modern College students announced that they will stay away from the Republic Day celebration on January 26.They also denounced that the central government has been watching the conflict, which has been going on for nearly for nine months now, like an entertainment.
There is no logic to celebrate Republic Day as the conflict continues unabatedly, they added.
