CM takes note of pressures faced by scribes

Chief Minister N Biren has assured that he will approach the Union Sports Minister to sort out the matter concerning dropping of Taekwondo and boxing from SAI Manipur.
Speaking as the chief guest at the 38th foundation day of evening vernacular daily Kangleipakki Meira today, Chief Minister Biren also assured to take up necessary steps for increasing the monthly salaries of the VDF personnel to Rs 8000 .
Lauding the journalists and those who work in media houses, Biren said that journalists and media persons faced a lot of pressure and inconveniences in the past due to the Armed Forces Special Powers Act.

When the 17th AR was still present at Kangla, the media persons put their life on the line in order to cover stories and events of rampant human rights violation, he added.
On the other hand, the Chief Minister explained that as he used to be a journalist in the past, he is not afraid to speak his mind instead of keeping mum.
He opined that in a democracy everyone has the right to speak out his or her thoughts and reasoned that development will come only when the positive thoughts are absorbed and considered.
Speaking at the event, Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar stressed on the critical role played by media in a Nation's political scenario and the society as well.
Stating that Lok Ayukta is meant to empower the media persons, the Minister explained that media needs to be developed in order to bring development in a democracy.
IPR Director H Balkrisrina Singh, former president of All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMJWU) N Tombiraj were also presen tas presidium members.
As a part of the foundation day, People's Chronicle reporter Oinam Niranjan was conferred Best Reporter (Male) award, ISTV Ashangbam Babita was given the Best Female Reporter (Electronic) award, TOM TV Khumanthem Jendal was given the Best Reporter Male (Electronic) award and Irungbam Prabinkumar was given the Best IPR Reporter award.
Best Hawker award was handed over to Chirom Biren and Sapam Guneshwor.
Legendary singers Arambam Jamuna and Shamurailatpam Nabachandra (Naba Volcano) were also honoured during the ceremony.
Three times Guinness World Record holder Yambem Gobin was also honoured as well.
