Three persons including a father and a son were electrocuted at Duigailong village, 5 kms west of Tamenglong district headquarters last night.
Even as the village witnessed a sudden increase in power voltage at around 10.30 pm, Vice-Principal of JNV Tamenglong, A Lungthuiyang (56) was electrocuted when he tried to plug off the power socket of his inverter.
His son, A Puduangai (14) died as he unknowingly touched his father.
Veterinary FA, D Mathiujuan (42) also fell in the tragic hand of death in the same manner inside the room.
The trio passed away within five minutes.
The sudden increase of voltage damaged many electronic and electrical appliances not only in the village but also in neighbouring villages.
At least five persons were also injured as they came into contact with electric current in the village.
The incident is believed to have occurred due to contact of High Tension (HT) wire with domestic line.
Meanwhile, Zeliangrong Baudi, Zeliangrong Students' Federation and Zeliangrong Youth Front have attributed the tragic incident to the negligence of the State Govt.Zeliangrong Baudi Chairman Thomas Kamei said that there is no EE and AE of the Power Department at Tamenglong headquarters.
The Control Room is also being manned by a chowkidar only, he added.
The Zeliangrong bodies would not remain silent if the Government fails to compensate the loss of lives and properties at the earliest, he added.
