Kangpokpi, April 23 2025:
Condemning the arson at Kamjong, several Kuki organisations have urged the Government to rebuild and rehabilitate Gampal and Haijang villages with compensation for losses, deploy neutral security forces to ensure safety and provide emergency humanitarian aid, including food, medical care, and shelter to the affected people.
Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) General Headquarters, Kuki Women's Union (KWU), Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights (KWOHR), and the Kuki Chiefs' Association Manipur (KCAM) condemned the recent violence that ravaged the villages of Gampal and Haijang today.
The attacks, described by the groups as "heinous" and "cowardly," involved arson.
The joint statement emphasized that these incidents have once again shaken the fragile peace in the region and left many Kuki families traumatized, displaced, and in despair.
"This is yet another horrifying chapter in the systematic targeting of the Kuki-Zo people," the statement read.
"The attackers destroyed homes, displaced families, and deepened the wounds of a community already burdened by ethnic violence and neglect" .
The organizations also took aim at the Government of India, accusing it of a "shameful failure" to uphold its Constitutional duty.
"Despite the growing humanitarian crisis, the Centre has remained alarmingly passive, failing to provide either protection or justice," they said.
"This indifference has only reinforced widespread perceptions of bias and neglect in handling the Kuki-Zo people's plight" .
Calling for swift, impartial, and humane interven- tion, the Kuki groups urged the Government to act immediately.
In a statement, KIM said, "These heinous attacks have terrorised innocent Kuki civilians and once again imperilled the already fragile peace and stability in the region" .
It said the arson took place under the watch of the Government of India and accused it of failing to uphold its Constitutional duty to maintain law and order.
It urged the Government of India to immediately rebuild and restore the villages of Gampal and Haiyang, and rehabilitate the affected families.
It demanded deployment of adequate neutral security forces in the area to ensure safety and protection of the villagers and prevent further violence.
It sought the Government to provide essential supplies including food, medical aid and shelter to all affected families.
Condemning the arson, the Kuki Eastern Kuki Chief Association (EKCA) Kamjong district urged the people to refrain from spreading unverified report in order to avert misinformation.
