Imphal, April 23 2022:
A team of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) rounded up one person for dumping garbage at Nagamapal stretch last night and he has been handed over to City police station.
As a part of its campaign to keep Imphal areas neat, the IMC officials led by its Caretaker Mayor L Lokeshwar and Chairman of Health and Sanitation Committee H Nutanchandra took out an inspection drive in Imphal areas to check improper waste disposal.
The IMC officials were accompanied by Corporators of different Wards and State police.
It is reported that the drive was taken out at Nagamapal stretch, Wahengbam Leikai, western side of Kanjeibung, Kangabam Leikai and the adjacent areas of JNIMS, during which the officials witnessed garbage being piled up in many localities.
Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the drive, L Lokeshwar said that keeping Imphal city neat and clean could not be done by IMC alone and it requires utmost support from the people.
It is truly unfortunate that some sections of people have been disposing waste on either side of important road stretches and public space, the Caretaker Mayor said and urged all to dispose of garbage properly.
He then said that the drive will continue and penalise the defaulters.
