Imphal, October 21 2011:
All India Tribal Students' Association Manipur Branch (AITSAM) has expressed concern and shock over the way Regional Centre of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University is running in Imphal.
AITSAM questioned how roll numbers could be entered wrongly in the marksheets of a University.
In a press release, AITSAM further questioned how a University could be run in just three class rooms without necessary infrastructure.
Saying that only 25 percent of the seats are reserved for tribal students at the Imphal Regional Centre of IGNTU, AITSM questioned why it should be named as 'tribal university' if cent percent reservation cannot be given to tribal students.
AITSAM also expressed concern over University authority and State Government's stoic silence although students have been on strike since past many days.
The students' body also warned that the Vice-Chancellor and State Government must held responsible for any untoward incident as a result of the ongoing students' stir.
Delaying further in upgrading the Regional Centre into a full-fledged University in accordance with the IGNTU Act 2007 would be taken as an insult to the tribal community of the State, it added.
