Imphal, May 21 2012:
As the meeting between the Chief Minister and the JAC Against the Murder of Pushpa Basnet ended on a stalemate this afternoon, it is feared that a fresh round of agitation may be launched any time.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, JAC convenor Dilip Bhurtel said that the Chief Minister was interested only in talking about ex-gratia.
The primary demand of the JAC is punishment of the culprit(s).
The Chief Minister maintained that due action would be initiated against the accused in accordance to findings of the police investigation.
As the Government is still dragging its feet to take due action against the accused, the JAC has decided not to accept the ex-gratia amount offered by the Chief Minister, conveyed Dilip Bhurtel.
He also disclosed that the JAC is seriously considering launching fresh round of intense agitation in view of the Chief Minister's alleged dilly-dallying tactics.
On the other hand, a large number of students took out a protest rally from Kanglatongbi to Presidency College, Motbung denouncing the murder of Pushpa Basnet.
The protesters carried placards which read "Punish the culprit", "Ingo should be hung in public", "We want peace", "Stop violence against girls and women" etc.
