Imphal, July 20 2024: One active cadre of KCP Taibangnganba group who is allegedly involved in extortion from the general public of Kakching and Thoubal districts has been arrested by Kakching district commandos from Tejpur Makha Leikai this afternoon.

Acting on a specific tip off about the presence of militants in and around Tejpur Makha Leikai area under Waikhong police station, a team of Kakching district commandos rushed to the spot and arrested one active cadre of KCP Tai-bangnganba group identified as Ningthoujam Ashakumar alias Abung (35) s/o Tom-cha of Laphupat Tera Part II, staying at Tejpur Makha Leikai at present, sources said.

During preliminary interrogation, Ashakumar alias Abung disclosed that he is presently working under the command of self styled vice chairman of the outfit, Rajesh alias Malemnganba Meitei.

The commando team recovered two mobile phones, Rs.22,000 in cash and four ATM cards from his possession, said the sources.

The arrested person has been handed over to Waikhong police station along with the seized items, the sources added.
