Folk Drama Festival ends

The 5th All Manipur Folk Drama Festival which commenced on April 16 has concluded today.
The festival was organised by Manipur Dramatic Union, Yaiskul Police Lane, Imphal under the financial assistance of Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
IPR Director Meghachandra Kongbam, Manipur Dramatic Union vice-president RK Sanajaoba Singh and director Yumnam Rajendra attended the valedictory programme as presidium members.
Meghachandra Kongbam stated that folk theatre has a big role to play in building a modern civilized society by disseminating messages of ethical values to the public through its various components-music, dance, dialogue, costume etc.
Citing examples of Lai Haraoba and Goura-Lila Sanjenba, he said that the State should try to revive the old traditions of Manipuri folklore and take initiative to develop folk theatre as an art form.
Yumnam Rajendra said, "We should try our best to organise seminars, workshops and conduct research in the area of folk drama keeping the taste of the audience on a broad perspective and also take steps to nurture it" .
RK Sanajaoba Singh said that the main objective of organizing the Folk Drama Festival is to provide opportunity to save the dying folk dramas and spread awareness about the rich legacy of folklore and folk drama.
