Imphal, December 18 2015 :
All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) and Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO-GHQ) have submitted a joint memorandum to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi threatening that the student bodies will resort to 'unwanted' activities if the service of the contract basis teachers of 2006 batch is not regularised within January 21 next year.
The memorandum said that a good number of teachers were appointed on contract basis by the Directorate of Education (S) following an MoU signed between ATSUM and State Government in 2006 .
The MoU mentioned that these teachers would be utilised by the Government until regular teachers are appointed, the memorandum said.
In November 2011, physical verification and checking of relevant documents were conducted by Education (S) for service extension/regularization of these teachers.
772 contract teachers were found genuine during the verification and their names were forwarded to the authority concerned for further necessary action, the memorandum said.
However, no concrete development in this regard has been seen so far, it added.
There is still acute shortage of teachers in hill areas despite recruitment of a large number of teachers under SSA and RMSA leading to academic downfall in the hill districts, the memorandum said.
The two bodies further said that countless number of representations had been submitted to the Government to acknowledge the contributions of these long suffering contract basis teachers by regularising their service.
However, no action has been initiated in their favour till date, the memorandum said.
