Two hurt in blast near RIMS gate

Imphal, November 18 2020:
Two persons were hurt in an IED blast near RIMS gate on November 16 morning.
The low intensity Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast occurred near the RIMS sentry booth located a few metres from Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) main entrance gate at around 8.47 am of November 16 injuring two persons identified as one, Papao (40) and his wife, Hoipi (38) of Molron village, Kangpokpi district.
They suffered multiple injuries due to the blast and they were treated at RIMS.
Reliable sources said the IED was suspected to have been planted by members of an underground outfit.
The blast also damaged the walls of the sentry post and iron sheet roof of a waiting shed.
Soon after the incident, a team of Imphal West district police and DIG Themthing Ngasangva arrived at the spot.
A team of Mobile Forensic Unit Imphal West investigated the blast site and took samples of the remains of the blast.
Lamphel police also registered a suo moto case for investigation.
Further, one security guard of RIMS identified as Sorokhaibam Suresh (37) of Iramsiphai Mamang Leikai deployed at the main entrance gate of RIMS was detained by the police regarding the case.
After interrogation, police arrested Suresh as a suspect.
Suresh was yesterday produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West and taken into seven days police remand for further investigation of the case.
On the other hand, the RIMS Nurses Association, Lamphelpat (RNAL) has strongly condemned the bomb blast of November 16 injuring innocent civilians.
Stating that the event was really unfortunate amid the difficult times due to COVID-19, the Association appealed to all the concerned not to repeat such incidents in future.
