Christian Network's biennial meet begins

The four-day 5th biennial conference of Christian Network of Positive Women, Manipur commenced from today at State Youth Hostel, Khuman Lampak.
The conference aimed at spreading awareness on HIV/AIDS and educating the Christian women on the issue is being organised under the joint sponsorship of Emmanuel Hospital Association, MACS, Social Welfare Department and Churches.
As chief guest of the inaugural session, Social Welfare Department's Project Director M Ranjana Devi hailed women members of the society as harbinger of peace inspite of themselves enduring severe mental or physical hardships.
Exhorting the womenfolk to overcome inferiority complex for they need to play one of the most important roles to mould the society, the Project Director asked the Christian Network of Positive Women functionaries to provide all possible assistance to enable its members and clients live a respectable life.
Informing the gathering that an individual woman may join women societies and avail financial assistance being provided by various financial institutions to enrich their livelihood, she further conveyed that inspite of being illiterate one can take up vocational courses.
Ranjana also mentioned that Social Welfare Department has various programmes for the welfare of the womenfolk.
Noting that many Manipuri womenfolk are facing the brunt of HIV/AIDS endemic and that a specific policy has been finalised to curb further spread of the dreaded disease, she exuded confidence that the policy would be able to boost morale of HIV/AIDS affected women.
Speaking at the occasion Tribal Research Institute's Joint Director Solomon Zingkhai stated that under no circumstance should a HIV/AIDS infected woman lose confidence or hope.
Rather than live in a state of depression one should consult subject experts or counsellor to live as a normal being, Solomon said.
Asking the conference participants to note tips from different speakers, Solomon opined that spreading the message further in their respective places would be helpful in combating HIV/AIDS problems.
Among others, Mr India title winner Kh Pradip, comedian S Hemanta, Pastor S Thangmeiso and actor/singer Hamom Sadananda also attended the conference.
