Imphal, June 18 2011:
Hordes of people came from across the state braving the rain to pay homage at Kekrupat, the memorial site set up in honour of the 18 people who laid down their lives in the people's uprising on this day in 2001 against GoI-NSCN(IM) ceasefire agreement without "territorial limit".
Like in previous years, the day was observed by United Committee Manipur (UCM) as "The Great June Uprising" and as "Unity Day' by the All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) with public meetings as separate places.
At Kekrupat, led by the families of the 18 martyrs people started gathering since early morning to pay floral tributes at the memorial there, and an unending stream of people continued to turn up all through the day amidst heavy down pour till noon.

With the rain stopped more people throng the Kekrupat to pay homage to the "martyrs".
Hansen Hege Margrette Kolshus of the Norwegian Embassy in India who is currently visiting the state, Dr T Meinya MP, Agriculture Minister Ph Parijat and MLA O Landhoni Devi were among others who turned up to pay homage at the memorial at Kekrupat.
Mention may be made that in the aftermath of extension of ceasefire "beyond territorial limits" between the Centre and National Socialist Council of Nagaland (I-M) in June 2001, the people of Manipur had strongly opposed the move and in the protests, people burnt offices of all political parties, and the legislative assembly complex and residences of some MLAs.
