Imphal, May 18 2012:
The United Lois Students' Union (UNILSU) has bemocked the announcement of the Director of Minority and Other Backward Classes (MOBC) to disburse the Post-Matric Scholarship (PMS) in a near future.
In a statement, UNILSU said that the scholarship was proposed to be given only to DM College of Arts, GP College, Manipur University, Imphal College and technical students.
The Union slammed the Government for attempting to break the unity of the SC students, calling it a "divide and rule" policy.
Further, the Union termed it unfair on the part of the Government to burden the students for the capricious functioning on their end.
Urging the Government to amend PMS for all the SC students together they appealed to the technical students and students of the aforementioned colleges not to accept the scholarship.
The Union maintained that the 48-hours general strike called from May 24 will still hold if the Government fails to disburse the scholarship by May 22 .
Meanwhile, the PMS affected Guardians' Association has also pledged that it would not accept the Government's order.
A statement of the association reiterated that the proposed generalstrike would be enforced if the scholarship issue is not resoilved till May 22 .
