Imphal, May 17 2022: At least 30 prominent personalities in varied fields including Sub Editor of The Sangai Express Lenin Khumancha and noted film-maker Aribam Syam Sharma have been conferred different awards by the Cultural Forum Manipur at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipuri Dance Academy, today.

Lenin Khumancha of The Sangai Express was given the Lairenlakpam Dharambir Singh Literary Award 2022 for Young Creative Writer.

He was also felicitated for winning Sahitya Akademi Award (Yuva Puraskar 2021) there.

The other award winners are Ayekpam ningol Chongtham ongbi Kamala Devi, Dr Haobam Nalini Devi, Lourembam Bino Devi, Khulem Chandrashekhar Singh, Dr Nepram Maya, Dr Moirangthem Kirti Singh, Hanjabam Gourachandra Sharma, Thongam Goshe Meitei, Takhellambam Mandakini Devi, Khangembam Ibeton Devi, Irungbam Bashanta Singh, Waikhom Ibotombi Mangang, Sapam Kullabi Singh, Haobam ningol Loitongbam ongbi Sumati Devi, Shanglakpam Achou Sharma, Thabatombi Ngangbam, Yumnam Jatra Singh, Tayenjam Bijoykumar Singh, Phurailatpam Boyaima Sharma, Rajkumar Bhubonsana Singh, Maibam Tondon Leima, Maibam Nabakishor Singh, Khumanthem Prakash Singh, Prof Hidangmayum Nandakumar Sharma, Prof Abdus Sahid Chowdhury, Mayanglambam Gourachandra, Thiyam Suryamukhi Devi and Wahengbam Lukhoi Singh.

Speaking as the chief guest of the function, Langthabal AC MLA Karam Shyam said that there is a need to formulate a concrete policy to preserve the culture and tradition of Manipur.

Saying that there are many valuable lessons which can be learned from 'our art and culture,' the MLA said that the unique culture and tradition of Manipur, however, seems to be disappearing.

Youth has a pivotal role to play to save the Manipuri culture from dying and as such they must learn whatever they can from the elders, K Shyam added.

The MLA also said that he was elated to see so many donors coming out to appreciate those who have been preserving Manipuri culture at their capacity.

President of Cultural Forum Manipur Huirem Behari Singh was the functional president.

Later, the gathering stood in silence for two minutes to pay respect to the deceased members of the forum.
