Lokeshwar poise to become youngest Speaker

With no other contestants for the seat of Speaker of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly, Thokchom Lokeshwar Singh, who filed his nomination for the post, is set to be elected as the youngest ever Speaker of Manipur on March 19 morning.
In a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party chaired by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today morning, the members resolved to project Lokeshwar for the post of Speaker at the initiative of the Chief Minister.
After the meeting, Lokeshwar along with other Congress MLAs went to submit 17 nomination papers in his favour at the new Assembly building at Chingmeirong.
Each nomination papers have two MLAs as its proposer and seconder.
Among the proposers and seconders were I Hemochandra (INC), Victor Keishing (INC), Gaikhangam (INC), Dikho (NPF), RK Imo (MSCP), Th Bishwajit (AITC), E Chand (INC) Md Amin Shah (INC), O Landhoni (INC), Dr Ng Bijoy (INC), K Thamarjit (MSCP), L Ibomcha (NCP), T Mangibabu (INC), AK Biren (INC), M Okendro (INC), K Meghachandra (INC), Th Debendra (INC), N Biren ((INC), M Prithiviraj (INC), Francis Ngajokpa (INC), K Sharat (AITC), Kh Joykishan (AITC) and T Manga Vaiphei (INC) .
Son of late MLA Thokchom Navakumar, LOkeshwar was born on April 13, 1967 at Sagolmang Mamang Leikai, Imphal East.
He married Nivedita and has one son.
An MA History, Lokeshwar was elected to the State Assembly for the first time in 2007 on INC ticket and has been holding the charge of Deputy Speaker.
He also hold the post of Speaker-in-Charge from September 30, 2010 to December 22 of the same year after the then Speaker Sapam Budhichandra passed away.
He again won the election this year and got elected to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly from Khundrakpam A/C on INC ticket.
Lokeshwar has been decorated with the Glory of India Award 2011, Global Business Opportunities (International Achiever Award 2010-11) and Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award for outstanding individual achievements and distinguished service to the Nation.
He has been an active member of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee since 2004.Among the 18 Speakers of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, he is set to become the youngest ever person to hold the post of Speaker surpassing I Hemochandra, who was considered the youngest Speaker.
