Imphal, October 16 2015 :
Patients who have been referred to hospitals outside Manipur by the medical board have been enduring certain difficulties due to absence of Director in the Medical and Health Directorate.
According to information received from Medical and Health Directorate, the Director has not been attending his office for almost one month.
It is said that the Director is on leave for medical treatment outside Manipur but nobody knows when the Director first took the leave and when he would return.
In the meantime, it is said that the Director had returned and he would be attending office from the next day.
However, the Director has not yet appeared in his office since taking leave.
Previous Directors used to inform subordinate officers before taking leave.
As such, all the staff knew in advance when the Directors would take leave.
Moreover, the Government issued orders in time regarding who be placed in-charge of the Director in the absence of the Director.
On account of prolonged absence of the Director, normal official works have also been affected.
The most affected section are the patients who need medical treatment outside Manipur with due recommendation of the medical board.
But the medical board is not holding any sitting nowadays.
MBBS nomination papers which should be signed by the Health and Medical Director have also been left pending.
Nonetheless, the nomination papers have been signed by someone else for the Director.
After attending the first batch of counselling, the Director skipped all subsequent counselling.
As the Director has been staying away from office for several days, Additional Director H Ranjit started assuming the duties of Director in-charge since a couple of days back although no formal order has been issued regarding his appointment as Director in-charge.
