Imphal, August 16 2014 :
Taking every one by surprise, students who took part in the Independence Day parade at 1st MR parade ground yesterday shouted slogans demanding enforcement of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur.
Notably, Chief Minister O Ibobi graced the Independence Day function as chief guest.
In the course of the function and after medals/prizes were distributed, the students started shouting slogans in unison like "ILPS must be enforced in Manipur", "We want ILPS" etc just as the Chief Minister started delivering his speech.
Even as the Chief Minister raised his voice, the students shouted their slogans even louder.
Police officers and personnel who were guarding the function were kept spellbound for some minutes by the unexpected uproar.
Without paying any heed to the Chief Minister's appeal to listen even for a few minutes, the students kept shouting their slogans.
Left with no other option, Ibobi took up the issue of ILPS in his speech after skipping other topics related to the Independence Day.
Only after the Chief Minister started talking about ILPS, the shouting subsided.
Saying that the issue of ILPS may be deliberated on any other platform, Ibobi asked the students who instigated them.
