Sericulture dept goes online

Sericulture Department of Manipur has launched its official website www.serimanipur.in along with the release of handbook on prospect and potential of sericulture industry in Manipur, at the office chamber of the Sericulture Minister, Manipur today.
According to a press release, the website and handbook focuses mainly on providing easy access to the people and farmers about sericulture and the Sericulture Department of Manipur.
The function was graced by Govindas Konthoujam, Minister Commerce and Industries/Sericulture/Vety and AH; and O Nabakishore Singh, IAS, Principal Secy Commerce and Industries/Sericulture as chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Govindas Konthoujam said that the Manipur Sericulture Project Phase-II will be implemented with the hope of not less than 50% success as Phase-I have succeeded 50%.He also said, the launching of website will help in bringing about development from the grass root level and access to the department will be on the fingertips of the people through the website with more transparency, the release added.
It also said, he further mentioned that the handbook will help the common people and farmers to gain knowledge about the industries near them and types of silk available for cultivation.
It will also motivate, educate and inform the farmers with more transparency in the work process of the department.
During the occasion, O Nabakishore Singh said that the Phase-I and Phase-II projects are the most awaited ones as it focuses on traditional products made from Castor (kege), silk (muga) etc, with leading industries in Leimaram, Pheiyeng, Khurkhul, Sekmai etc.
The Government will help in financing the Cocoon producers by buying at a minimum rate of Rs 400 and providing it to the industries and dealers, the release stated.
Victor Keishing, MLA Phungyar AC and Parliamentary Secy TD and Hills/IT; Z Kikhonbou Newmai, MLA Tamei AC and Vice Chairman Hill Areas Committee; and Kh Devendro Singh, MLA Sekmai AC also attended the function.
