Biswajit reviews RD&PR schemes

Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh today instructed officials of the department to strengthen implementation of MGNREGS in the State so as to achieve 100 man-days work at the earliest.
Chairing a review meeting of the various schemes implemented under the department today at the conference hall of his New Secretariat office, Biswajit stressed on the importance of the schemes.
He said that the schemes are aimed at generating employment for the rural unemployed youth.
Biswajit instructed the District Programme Coordinators and District Commissioners to upload the estimates of 30 man-days of their districts concerned before July 31 on the SECURE website.
He added that necessary training for uploading data on the website should be imparted to district officials concerned at the earliest.
The Minister instructed the officials to identify if there are any fictitious or bogus card holders and to cancel their names if there are any and ensure that only genuine card holders are made payments.
Biswajit also highlighted the issue of water conservation and underscored the need to encourage people to adopt traditional and old ways of water conservation.
He said both the hills and the valley have their own techniques and knowledge of water conservation and added that the ancient techniques are more economical than many of the present technologies available.
During the meeting, officials concerned highlighted that the Jal Shakti Abhiyan has been implemented in six water-stressed blocks of Chandel and Senapti districts (three blocks from each district) since the start of July and will continue till September 15 this year.
Biswajit observed that the DCs concerned should also have proper knowledge on the utilisation of MLA Local Area Development Funds under their jurisdiction.
Regarding PMAY-G implementation in the State, the Minister instructed the authorities concerned to work harder to achieve the State's target and increase registration of beneficiaries at the earliest.
Principal Secretary MH Khan observed that DPCs and DCs are major stakeholders in the successful implementation of the scheme.
He said that it is their responsibility to educate the public about the scheme and its implementation.
The meeting was also attended by DCs, DPCs, Deputy Secretary RD&PR, Director RD&PR and other officials of the department.
