Imphal, February 16 2017:
Due to the alleged lack of initiative by Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAF & PD) Department, Sub Kerosene Oil (SK Oil) quota for the State for the month of February and March may be lost.
The apprehension was expressed by All Manipur SK Oil Dealers' Association.
Talking to newspersons, office bearers of the association said that as per a report sent by Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India on December 26 last year, 5100 kilolitres of SK Oil were allocated to the State for the month of January, February and March of this year with 1700 KL for each of the month.
They claimed that allocation for the month of January was issued by CAF & PD Department on January 7 but allocation for the remaining two months is yet to be issued.
On account of the ongoing economic blockade called by United Naga Council (UNC) on National Highways since November 1, only 15 percent and 25 percent out of the total State quota allocated for the month of December of last year and January of this year respectively could be lifted by the SK Oil dealers, they said.
As per the guidelines of the Ministry, 60 percent of the total SK Oil quota allocated for a month should be lifted within 10 days, 85 percent within 18 days and 100 percent within 25 days, the office bearers elaborated.
Asking as to why allocation for the current month is not issued despite passing 16 days, they reaffirmed that the Department ought to issue sub-allocation of the oil whether IOCL has enough stock or not.
If sub-allocation is issued timely and accordingly by the Department then allocation for the previous month which is yet to be lifted could be lifted the next month, they said.
They urged the Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary/Commissioner of CAF & PD to arrange steps to ensure that those card holders (pre-NFSA) get 4 litres of oil by issuing allocation for the month of February and March at the earliest.
Referring to a news report carried in this daily on February 15 last, they urged IOC officials to increase the stock of SK Oil.
