Karbi outfit fires at LPG tankers, abducts three

The recently formed Karbi People's Liberation Tiger (KPLT) launched a heavy attack on Manipur bound bullet tankers (bulk LPG carriers) on NH 39 within Karbi Angolong district of Assam today afternoon.
They also abducted three drivers and handymen of the tankers.
The incident took place around 3.30 pm a report received here said adding that no injury or explosion of tankers carrying highly inflammable petroleum products occurred in the firing.
The heavy firing caused damage to windshields and other parts of the tankers.
Forty to fifty cadres of the outfit, armed with sophisticated weapons, launched the attack.
The cadres were led by LS Bay, highway in-charge of the outfit reportedly for not paying monetary demands served by the outfit to the bullet tankers as "tax" payable to them, the report said.
The outfit reportedly has admitted the attack and taking captivity of three persons.
Following the incident, many Dimapur and Imphal bound goods carriers including tankers were stranded before the Karbi Anglong area, the report added.
The new outfit, Karbi People's Liberation Tiger (KPLT), was formed at an undisclosed location on January 8, 2011 with an objective of creating a separate Karbi state out of Assam.
The outfit was formed with 25 cadres of the anti-talks faction of the KLNLF.
On January 8 the outfit came into being after a flag hoisting by the General Secretary and the Publicity Secretary of the outfit Nilip Ingti.
The Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the new outfit, Jing Hansai criticized the KLNLF and said that his party would continue subversive activities if their demands are not met.
The outfit claims it has taken the Dima Hasao district of Assam and parts of Arunachal Pradesh as their base.
The new outfit says it is equipped with modern weaponry like mortars, AK-47, AK-56, M20 guns etc.
Surprisingly, the outfit mentions that if the talks between UPDS and the government proves successfull, they would forgo arms.
