Imphal, January 15 2019:
Several vegetable dealers in the State, despite acquiring Food Safety licence, lack proper awareness about registering at the Directorate of Horticulture & Soil Conservation.
The Sangai Express, while interacting with many dealers conducting business at Khwai Bramhapur Leikai along Nagamapal road today, came across the owner of one RK Enterprise who said that he has been dealing vegetables from Assam and that the business has been running a long time.
Meanwhile, the dealers have expressed the lack of knowledge about the notification of Directorate of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, on December 16, 2018, which directed compulsory registration for dealers at the Directorate and the warning given by Horticulture and Soil Conservation Minister Th Shyamkumar, on January 8 this year, to ban all non registered dealers.
Conveying that RK Enterprise hold the Food Safety and Registration Wing, Food Safety and Standard Authority of India, reference regulation licence (11611009000085), the owner maintained that Food Safety and Authority officials often conduct inspection annually.
He added that the vegetables imported from Assam lasts upto four days during winter and only two days in summer, however, vegetables like Pumpkin and bottle gourd can be kept for longer days.
He added that the vegetables are brought by vehicles of the vegetable agency.
The adjoining shop, Shah and Sons Agency also acquired food safety licence but did not have any knowledge about registering at the Directorate.
The dealers told The Sangai Express that around four vegetable dealer shops sell imported vegetables along Nagamapal road.
