Fuel allocation crisis

Imphal, December 14 2016:
There has been a growing discontent with the fuel allocation procedure of the Government's Consumer Affairs Food and Distribution to retail outlets in the State.
According to a source, retail outlets were originally provided fuel from the Imphal Divisional Retails Sales depot of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) based on the retail outlets' previous year's sales record.
Due to the economic blockade imposed by the United Naga Council on the two National Highways, the sales and operation wing of IOC began to distribute the fuel according to a ration system devised by Manipur Government's Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution on November 17 .
But the nature of the allocation has sparked a suspicion as to whether only some specific retail outlets have been preferred over others, it added.
According to the owners of some retail outlets, fuel is being allocated almost everyday to some petrol pumps and outlets which are deemed to be close to the Government while others are being allocated with a rather minuscule amount of fuel which ultimately results in problems when distributing to the people.
They urged the authorities concerned to look into the matter of unethical fuel allocation adding that even the oil tankers were facing great difficulties in rushing between two to three petrol pumps due to the erratic nature of the allocation.
