MAPI Council president N Bimol no more

President of Manipur Peace and Integrity (MAPI) Council, Nongthombam Bimol Meitei succumbed to COVID-19 on August 13 at JNIMS hospital.
He was 63 .
MAPI Council said this in a statement issued today and added that he was one of the most prominent leaders of MAPI Council who played a very important role in various issues including AFSPA, ILP, Indo-Naga Peace Talk etc.
He was arrested by the police on June 25 and was in jail where he contracted COVID-19 and was brought to JNIMS hospital for treatment, added the statement.
MAPI Council alleged that while he was in jail, he was subjected to inhuman treatment and no concern about his health was given.
Despite doctors trying everything they could, he could not recover from the dreaded virus, added the statement.
Nongthombam Bimol Meitei was also convenor of Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM) .
MAPI Council, Tarahei Youth Development Organisation (TYDO) and Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA), AMSU, UPACO, AMKIL, Nupi Samaj, Tammi Chingmee, EECHAL, NIMPAL, Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup, Thoubal Imal, ANUL, Macha Leimai, AMPFA, PPCM, AMUCO, CCSK, KIL, MSF, CHITUWA, Covid Task Force, HAOMEE Research Guild condoled the demise of Nongthombam Bimol.
Meitei and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
United Committee Manipur (UCM) also condoled the demise of Nongthombam Bimol Meitei and observed a one minute silence for the departed soul to rest in peace.
UCM added in the condolence message that Nongthombam Bimol Meitei had selflessly worked towards bringing peace and harmony between the people of different communities and his death is a great
loss to Manipur.
