Imphal, July 14 2015 : The Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) has urged the Home Department to immediately cancel the name of a rape accused, Ashang Shimray from the Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) recruitment list.

Ashang Shimray is accused of raping a minor girl on Jan 1, 2014 and the case is pending in the Court, according to a statement issued by general secretary of ZB (AMN), Dr Gairiangmei Maringmei.

The rape accused, Ashang Shimray had been selected by the Home Department of Manipur for the post of ASI and is now undergoing training at Manipur Police Training College, Pangei.

It is shocking that such person with criminal records was recruited as an ASI by the Home Dept without conducting a personal verification, it said while adding that his selection is a blot on the Department.

Till today, no interim relief has been provided to the minor rape victim, it pointed out, while demanding justice for the victim at the earliest.

"We also urge the authority concerned to immediately take action against the selection committee or verifying officer for selecting the rape accused in the recruitment," it said.

Urging all concerned civil organisations of the State to take cognizance of the case, ZB said it will not remain a silent spectator in case justice is denied any longer.
