Imphal, October 13 2015:
In view of the prevailing political situation in the hills, the United Naga Council (UNC) has drawn immediate attention of the Government of India for its political intervention to fulfil the political aspiration of the Nagas and tribals.
For any hindrance towards this end, the State Government will be held solely responsible .
In a statement issued by its general secretary, S Milan, the UNC condemned and rejected outright the infamous three anti-tribal Bills and two resolutions passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31, 2015 and the killing of 9 innocent civilians including a minor and seriously injuring many more civilians while defending their inalienable rights on August 31 and September 1 whose lifeless bodies are still lying at the morgue of Civil Hospital, Churachandpur, HQ.
The United Naga Council (UNC) recalled the alleged atrocities meted out by O Ibobi's security forces to the democratic and peaceful agitators killing two innocent students at Mao Gate on May 6, 2010 and two innocent civilians at Ukhrul HQ on August 30, 2014 which exposed alleged 'anti tribal' and 'communal attitude' of the State Government towards the tribal people.
Time has come for the tribal people to stand united and fight against all forms of State sponsored terrorism, it said.
Throughout their history, the Nagas and their land are inseparable and they have been defending their ancestral homeland since time immemorial.
Hundreds and thousands of precious lives have been sacrificed and many properties have been destroyed for the cause.
It is the obligation of the Naga people to protect and safeguard the land that they have inherited from their forefathers.
The UNC has been closely monitoring every step of the 'communal Government of Manipur' in its attempts to suppress peoples' democratic movement for its political rights and aspirations.
Further, 'communal Government of Manipur' is determined to take up different forms of suppressive or oppressive measures towards the hill tribals through whimsy instrument of Bills, Acts, Orders, Political and Administrative Decisions, Directives etc to grab tribal land and to further destroy tribal unity.
Therefore, the United Naga Council (UNC) appealed to Nagas and tribals people to remain alert to give befitting response to its evil designs and policies.
