Senapati, February 13 2025:
In a disturbing incident, unknown miscreants snatched the vehicle keys of five loaded trucks belonging to the Naga community on February 9, Sunday morning.
The incident reportedly occurred at around 9.30 am at Sekmai, where the trucks were attempting to transport Dimapur sand to Imphal.
According to the Senapati District Truck Owners Association and Senapati District Truck Drivers Union, the drivers of the five trucks were intercepted by a Swift Dzire car near Sekmai while en route to Imphal.
The occupants of the car then snatched the vehicle keys from the drivers.
The drivers were reportedly instructed to contact the Manipur Sand Union, who informed them that some cadres an underground organisation were allegedly involved in the incident.
Our Senapati correspondent said that over 50 trucks loaded with Dimapur sand belonging to Naga owners have been stranded at Sekmai area since February 7 last over demand for illegal taxes.
The Senapati District Truck Owners Association and Senapati District Truck Drivers Union had threatened to discontinue transporting goods and commodities if such illegal taxes were not stopped at once.
The two truck bodies had also warned that unchecked illegal taxation along the highway could compel them to call a strong democratic agitation if the authority fails to ensure safe passage of goods and commodities to Imphal.
