Imphal, January 13 2021:
Students of DM College of Arts shut down the college and DMU (Dhanamanjuri University) denouncing transfer of 2 teachers of the college today.
The "shutdown" will stay until the transfer order is revoked, said the students.
The Higher and Technical Education Commissioner M Harekrishna had issued an order yesterday for transferring Political Science teacher Dr A Noni to Moirang College and English teacher B Shantikumar Sharma to Kha Manipur College, Kakching.
At around 1 pm today, postgraduate students of Dhanamanjuri University and students of DM College of Arts locked the office of the Principal.

They protested by surrendering their bags and sitting in front of the college gate.
DM College of Arts Student Union's debate and extension secretary, Suraj Takhelmayum said the students can't accept the transfer order when the college is facing shortage of teachers.
The transfer order is ill timed and the DMU and DM College of Arts will remain shutdown until the order is stayed and revoked, he said.
The student union's social and culture secretary Y Papendra said the transfer order would affect the students and the functioning of the college.
COVID-19 pandemic had shut down the college for months and when classes were about to resume recently, an impasse between the teachers and the DMU authority regarding fresh recruitment of teachers had crippled the plan.
Now, when the impasse has been resolved, the transfer order has again affected the college and the students, he said.
The authority concerned should revoke the transfer order and bring normalcy in the college, he said, adding that the two teachers have been working with dedication in improving the college.
At around 4.30 pm, the students tried to lock the gate of the college but a large number of security personnel foiled the attempt and the students later dispersed.
