Imphal, May 12 2012:
Appreciating the introduction of six new tribes of Manipur in the recognised tribes list under the Constitution of India, a meeting of the Kabui tribe convened today by the Kabui Development Voluntary Organisation, Manipur at MDU Hall strongly objected the inclusion of two tribesInpui and Rongmei, at Sl no 8 alongside the Kabui by the Government of India.
The meeting further urged the Government to place Inpui and Rongmei under Sl Nos 35 and 36 respectively to clearly show that two more additional tribes have been included in the list of the recognised tribes list of Manipur.
The meeting also decided to send representation to the Government of India in order to felicitate rectification of the Constitution (ST) Order (Amendment) Act, 2011 .
Further the meeting decided to launch several forms of democratic protest in case the demand is not rectified while also entrusting the Kabui Development Voluntary Organisation, Manipur to spearhead the demand.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Kabui's civil society organisations, AMESGO, AMUCO, Irabot Foundation, etc.
Addressing the convention, KDVO president, Disinrei said that the community never opposed the recognition appended by Government of India to any tribe, but it would never tolerate the attempt to substitute the Kabui tribe by other tribes.
The Gazette issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on January 9, 2012 that effect the inclusion of Inpui and Rongmei tribes at serial No 8 of the recognised tribes list of the Constitution was construed as an attempt to assimilate the Kabui tribe, Disinrei contended.
He said the move to assimilate the Kabui tribe would be strongly confronted while urging that the Government to place the newly recognised tribes serial-wise.
