Only 40 pc of licensed guns collected so far

Imphal, April 12 2024:
Even though the Lok Sabha elections is just six days away, only around 40 per cent of licensed guns have been collected in Imphal West district till date.
This was stated by Imphal West SP Ksh Shivkanta during a press meet held today at the District Election Office, Imphal West DC office complex.
Inner Manipur PC RO Th Kirankumar was also present at the press meet.
Shivkanta said that notices and summons have been sent to those people who are yet to deposit their licensed guns at police stations.
The SP said that he would write to the District Magistrate to cancel gun licences if the owners refuse to hand over their guns even after serving notices.
Police have initiated a number of confidence building measures such as foot patrolling, area domination and combing operations so that people can vote in a free and fair manner without any sense of fear, Shivkanta said.
In coordination with Kangpokpi district administration, Imphal West district police have taken up extra security measures at different places of Imphal West district adjoining Kangpokpi district, the SP said.
DC Kirankumar said that preparations to ensure peaceful, free and fair voting in all the 32 Assembly segments of Inner Manipur PC which would go to polls on April 19 are almost complete.
